A taste of Canada and exclusive Aeroplan member perks are being added to EPCOT, as Air Canada has announced that it’s the new Official Canadian Airline of Walt Disney World! This partnership will result in a reimagined restaurant, VIP fireworks viewing, and more. Here are full details plus our commentary about the possible ‘why’ of this and the conspicuous omission.
Let’s start with the headline news, which is that the new Walt Disney World corporate alliance will yield a reimagined Refreshment Port at EPCOT, will become La Poutinerie hosted by Air Canada. This World Showcase dining spot has been closed for several months with a large set of construction walls around it, so now we have an explanation for the why of that lengthy project.
Air Canada released concept art (see below) showing the reimagined La Poutinerie quick service restaurant. The rendering reveals a redesigned building with new La Poutinerie signage,a centerpiece featuring Canada geese in flight and maple trees with fall foliage, and new landscaping with flowers and rocks. There’s also new decorative elements on the building itself, including stone and wood paneling.
In its announcement encouraging Aeroplan members to “Dream bigger on your Disney adventure,” Air Canada shares some of what else is to come as part of the partnership. The redone dining venue is described as serving up “a taste of Canada at EPCOT. La Poutinerie, hosted by Air Canada brings a Canadian classic with a twist.”
The “classic with a twist” language suggests various takes on traditional poutine, presumably of the loaded variety. Refreshment Port previously served poutine along with other standard theme park fare, such as chicken nuggets. It was also treated as a de facto marketplace for the various EPCOT festivals, getting seasonal menu items with regularity. Hopefully this amounts to an expansion and improvement over past menus.
At one point in the past, Refreshment Port was sponsored by Boursin (see signage on photo below). I’m not exactly sure when that ended, but I miss that era; it yielded the best loaded poutines and one of the all-time greatest EPCOT desserts.

Refreshment Port closed in mid-January for refurbishment. Walt Disney World posted a brief update at the time stating only that the location was closed for refurbishment with no other details, except to “check back for updates.” (There’s still no update on the official site.)
Earlier this month, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a Notice of Commencement construction permit listing frequent collaborator Icarus Exhibits as contractor. The scope of work was for installing set elements.
Imagineering’s involvement, as opposed to FAM or another non-creative arm of the company, strongly suggested that guest-facing changes were going to be made to Refreshment Port, as opposed to back of house updates or a simple kitchen refurbishment. Now we have a look at the work Imagineering and Icarus will be doing on behalf of Air Canada for La Poutinerie:

Although the exterior looks like a decent plussing, the dining portion of this announcement is otherwise fairly unremarkable. This location served poutine “with a twist” previously. But you know what could make La Poutinerie something special? If it became La Poutinerie & La BeaverTailery!
Disney should forge both an airline alliance and an aquatic rodent bread partnership. This was supposed to happen a few years ago, but didn’t. If you missed that roller coaster, check out BeaverTails Are Gone Again…Already?!
Regardless of what happened back then, now is the time to bring back BeaverTails. Disney should work out an agreement with the Canadian company to bring the delicacy back after a two-decade hiatus. The people demand these delicious pastries to accompany our poutine. Every single Canada pavilion announcement that doesn’t involve BeaverTails is a missed opportunity.

For those who are unfamiliar with this glorious Canadian culinary creation, BeaverTails has been an iconic indulgence in Canada since 1978, and today combine the original recipe with premium quality ingredients. Served piping-hot, the hand-stretched whole-wheat pastries are both crispy and chewy at the same time.
BeaverTails truly are iconic in Canada, having been eaten by Matt Damon, Ron MacLean, Ed Sheeran, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, and U.S. President Barack Obama. BeaverTails were even featured in an episode of South Park.
Poutine with a twist plus BeaverTails would put La Poutinerie on the map as an international destination worthy of being the first stop while Snacking Around World Showcase at Epcot. And while we’re daydreaming, make this the permanent home of the Maple Bourbon Cheesecake, a first-ballot hall of fame festival food from days gone at EPCOT.

Perhaps more consequentially, Air Canada has also announced “VIP access to an EPCOT event” as part of its new corporate alliance with Walt Disney World. This will allow Aeroplan Members to redeem points for access to a members-only weekly premium viewing area for Luminous The Symphony of Us.
There are dates for this VIP viewing every Saturday starting May 9, 2026. Notably, this includes 4th of July. Here’s the description of the perk from Air Canada:
VIP access provides entry to a private, designated standing area with premium viewing for up to 25 people. Seating is not available. Area is wheelchair accessible.
VIP access for Aeroplan Members is available at the China Overlook area. Refer to the location identified on the map provided within images. Private viewing area is subject to change.
An email confirming redemption of VIP access will be sent to the member with a VIP access code(s) which must be retained and presented to redeem this experience while visiting EPCOT at WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort in Florida.
Please arrive at the designated area 10-15 minutes prior to the beginning of the event.
To check in to the viewing area, please proceed to the China Overlook in World Showcase. Here’s how to find it:
1. Enter World Showcase – From the center of EPCOT, head toward the World Showcase Lagoon.
2. Locate the China Pavilion – Look for the striking red architecture and the Temple of Heaven dome.
3. Find China Overlook – The China Overlook is a scenic area along the lagoon side of the pavilion, offering a beautiful view of the water.
4. Check In with a Disney Cast Member – Disney’s Cast Members will be ready to assist you at the Overlook. Look for event signage or ask any nearby Cast Member for directions; they’ll be happy to help.

Before you curse this as being a negative for everyone else, there are a few things to note.
The first is that Aeroplan is free to join. Second, the cost of this is only 1,000 points, which have a value of less than $15 (using a standard 1.44 cents valuation).
Finally and most importantly to those of you who haven’t flown Air Canada to earn Aeroplan miles: it’s pretty easy to transfer in points, and Air Canada is a member of the Star Alliance.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Aeroplan VIP viewing of Luminous entails. If this is a bona fide fireworks dessert party with Poutine (with a twist!), BeaverTails and Maple Bourbon Cheesecake, it’ll be an incredible deal–and one that won’t last.
If it’s just a special viewing area without any bonuses, it’ll be nothing special. Luminous is pretty easy to see, and it’s absolutely not worth staking out spots far in advance for the show, and certainly not spending money–not even a minimal number of miles–for special viewing.
Based on the description above, it sounds like it’s just viewing and nothing else. The location itself is nothing special–there are countless equivalent or superior free spots around the lagoon–so it’ll really hinge on crowds and potential bonus perks of this spot, if any. We’ll be booking this for May or June and will report back!
The ‘why’ of this all, from La Poutinerie to Air Canada becoming the Official Canadian Airline of Walt Disney World and the VIP viewing, is perhaps the most interesting angle of the entire story. The timing certainly does not feel coincidental.
As we recently documented in Florida Reports Record 143 Million Visitors & Orlando Airport Hits 58 Million, Canadian visitor volume to Florida dropped from 3.3 million to 2.9 million visitors year-over-year, for reasons that are probably obvious. (In case not, see Canadians Are Canceling Walt Disney World Vacations.) Prior to that, the trajectory and projections had been for modest growth in Canadian travel.
During Disney’s most recent earnings call, the company warned of international visitation “headwinds” and a looming slowdown in the forward guidance. No numbers were given, but the tone suggested the international decrease had deepened year-over-year, which isn’t a huge surprise given the lag between booking international trips and actually traveling. As a result, Walt Disney World pivoted its marketing and sales efforts to focus on more of a domestic audience in order to keep attendance and occupancy rates high.

Ultimately, with this new Air Canada partnership, perhaps Walt Disney World is trying to figure out a way to attract Canadians, or at least signal that they’re welcome and valued guests. It’s a savvy move, but one that we suspect will have more strategic long-term value than will result in an immediate impact.
I’m skeptical that Canadians who are avoiding America for the time being are not going to be enticed by VIP viewing of fireworks at EPCOT or more poutine. BeaverTails probably wouldn’t even do the trick! These prospective guests are probably “unreachable” for now, absent incredibly aggressive discounts (and even then, visiting the United States is likely a complete non-starter for a significant number).
This is probably precisely why Walt Disney World has pivoted their marketing and sales efforts to domestic tourists; because the problem is not one that advertising or special offers can overcome. Regardless, this strikes me as a smart longer-term play for both Air Canada and Walt Disney World, and I’m pleased to see this type of forward-thinking.
